Introducing Solid Food

Weaning your baby

What is weaning?

Weaning is when you start to introduce your baby to solid foods. It is recommended that you start to wean your baby at around 6 months old. Your baby should be introduced to a varied diet, alongside their usual breast milk or first infant formula.

This Best Start in Life guide provides expert NHS advice, helpful videos, tips from other parents, and lots of simple, healthy weaning recipe and meal ideas.

Introducing Solids Workshops in Dudley

Poster promoting “Starting Solids – Free local workshops” by HENRY (Healthy Start, Brighter Future). The poster shows a baby sitting in a highchair holding a spoon and eating from a bowl. Text explains that introducing solid foods is the start of a new chapter for parent and baby. It advertises workshops for introducing solids at 6 months, covering signs of readiness, what foods to start with, recognising hunger and fullness, and making mealtimes enjoyable. A “Come along!” call-out appears alongside booking details for workshops across Dudley borough and online, with a website link (www.dudleyparents.co.uk) and a QR code to book.

Come to a Starting Solids workshop to help you get your baby off to a great start. The workshop will help you decide:

  • When your baby is ready to try solid food
  • What foods to start with
  • When your baby is hungry and when they’ve had enough
  • How to make mealtimes an enjoyable experience for both of you

Workshops are suitable for parents/carers with a baby aged between 4 – 8 months.
Workshops are available at venues across Dudley borough as well as online. Please visit the Dudley Parenting website to view upcoming dates, times, and booking information.
