Self-Management Programme
These are courses for adults who live or work in the Dudley borough or have a Dudley GP. The courses are for people with long-term health conditions such as:
- Type 1 Diabetes, arthritis, COPD, osteoporosis, pain conditions, heart problems, depression and anxiety and many more.
There are also specific courses available for adults who:
- have a caring responsibility
- have type 2 diabetes
- have a long-term health condition and bereaved
- have cancer or are survivors and fear a recurrence
All courses are FREE and run for 2.5 hours per week for six weeks. Groups offered are available in community venues and online.
Some of the topics covered are:
- Dealing with pain, extreme tiredness and physical limitations
- Dealing with difficult emotions, stress and anxiety
- Relaxation techniques
- Healthy eating and physical activity
- Communication with family, friends and healthcare professionals
- Planning for the future
By taking part in a programme you will:
- Learn new skills to help manage your health condition and improve your quality of life
- Develop confidence in the daily management of your specific condition
- Meet others and share similar experiences
- Learn how to develop more effective relationships with healthcare professionals
- Be realistic about the impact of your condition on yourself and your family
- Plan for the future
